DES MOINES, Iowa — More than 200 Meredith employees worked to better the community Thursday.

The volunteers stepped away from the office to team up with Rebuilding Together Greater Des Moines for the 13th annual Fall Workday. They focused their efforts on 11 projects in the Martin Luther King Junior Park and Capital Park neighborhoods.

One of the groups worked to repair a home in the 900 block of Walker Street. Thirteen people, three generations of one family, live in the home. A completely new kitchen and bathroom are being constructed along with lots of other upgrades and renovations.

“IT people, HR people, finance people…every side of the company. Magazine editors, it’s fun when we get the creative editors in here they always want to do something a little bit more than just slap paint on the wall,” says John Gaspari, IT manager for Meredith.

All of Thursday’s projects are somehow connected to the Boys and Girls Club of Central Iowa.
